Corneal epithelial mapping in different corneal conditions

Abstract Background Cataract surgery is traumatic to the corneal epithelium,scarring and opacity commonest cause of blindness. Objective To study epithelial thickness in different conditions using anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT). Patients Methods A case-control including 80 eyes divided equally into 4 groups; group 1:controls,group 2:corneal scarring ,group 3:cataract patients 4:pterygium. AS-OCT mapping document changes controls, cataract pre 1 month after phacoemulsification, with pterygium. Results In phacoemulsification group; we found that became thinner area (0_2) thicker (7_9) mm map no significant change areas (2_5),(5_7) map. compared control all zones. pterygium in, (2_5), (5_7) & Conclusion The epithelium becomes or compensate for stromal thickness.
